Goods movement and storage are the oil that keeps London's wheels turning

By: Jamie Francis

The estimated 15 million visitors who come to London every year from all over the world are a major driving force in the city's economy.

Apart from visiting to see all the sights for which the city is so famous, they also buy huge amounts of food, drink, souvenirs and various other goods from the many retailers, from the plethora of small souvenir shops, through the market stalls, to the massive department stores which are so synonymous with the city.

And all of these outlets are thankful for the small army of delivery drivers who go about their business around the clock to supply them with the goods they sell.

In addition to these movements, many more people regularly need to move such items as furniture around the city. They too often use hired transport to get their job done.

With the cost of owning a van so high, and parking spaces, especially in central London, so hard to come by and so expensive, demand has grown for on-the-spot hire facilities. Using these, anyone with a driving licence and identification can hire a van, and use it to carry out their essential moving tasks, whether it is delivering an urgent package, or helping out with a house move.

The daily cost of van hire can often be justified when it is compared alongside costs such as those for long-term and even short-term on-street parking. And of course when someone else is doing the driving, that takes away a great deal of the stress which is always involved in driving around the capital.

It is often said that two pairs of hands are better than one, and that's always true when there's some moving to be done. Jobs take less time, and it's far easier and more practical when heavy loads such as large items of furniture are involved.

A van which comes with a driver will also save a great deal of time on route planning. If the driver is given the locations of his pick-ups and drop-offs before starting, he can have his journey worked out in advance, so saving vital time when on the road, and allowing him to concentrate properly on negotiating the traffic and the often complicated roads system.

Hiring a man and van is like having extra staff for the day. It means so much more can get done in a shorter time. And less time for work means more time for more enjoyable things.

Go online to see and compare companies offering man with van London services, and it's also possible to find places where storage in London is available.
